Life turns on a dime
As I get older, there are truths about life that have become so clear and poignant. I think one of those is that we can never be complacent about our life...life is never secure. We rock along thinking things are great and, truly, "Life turns on a dime."
Talked to Jennifer this afternoon, just to check on everyone. She told me they had a crisis on Monday that none of us, it seems, even knew about. Dr. Benton called to say he thought Hannah had the "Necro" bacteria, some really bad germ that preemies get. Jennifer said she had to pull off the road she got so hysterical. After four or five hours it began to look as if maybe it wasn't "necro" but they still don't know what. Hannah is on four antibiotics, glucose, no food and feels pretty puny, but Jennifer said she doing better and should be OK and back on food, maybe tomorrow.
All this and we didn't even know. Jennifer said we didn't need to worry, she was doing enough of that for all of us! It's like when I find out ten years later that Ryan used to climb OVER the two-story roof in the middle of the night to knock on Jennifer's window! I was sleeping, thinking things were fine, and didn't know my son could have fallen off the roof. Life turns on a dime.
Every minute is precious and there are so many moments we miss and can never regain. I am trying to be a better steward of those insignificant moments.
